Music At First Returns for a Third Season

Pianist David Friend and composer/vocalist Corey Dargel will open the exciting third season of Music At First on Friday, February 25, at 7:30 p.m., with Radical Keyboards and Songs of Dysfunction.  Mr. Friend, called "astonishingly compelling" by the Washington Post, will perform electroacoustic works by composers Kate Moore, Christopher Marianetti, Daniel Wohl, Jacob TV, and will premiere a new work by Angélica Negrón. Corey Dargel, called "one of the more original and consistently provocative artists pushing at the margins of modern classical music and adventurous pop" by the New York Times, will be joined by James Moore on guitar and Wil Smith on keyboard in a performance of his new song cycle, Hold Yourself Together, recently hailed by Steve Smith (NY Times) as "strongly fashioned and lyrically direct... one of Mr. Dargel’s most instantly relatable creations." Admission is $10. Upcoming in the Music At First series are:

  • April 8: Flute/viola/harp trio Janus and a preview performance of an excerpt from Michael Gordon's percussion sextet, Timber, performed by Mantra Percussion
  • May 20: Flutist Margaret Lancaster in the premiere of a new work for sensory-deprived performers by composer Eric km Clark, performed by The Deprivation Choir.
